“Moana” is the story of a girl who embarks on a dangerous journey, chosen by the ocean itself to help save her island from blight and free the Goddess Te Fiti while grappling with her community’s expectations. She is accompanied by Maui, a legendary demigod. Her strong-willed character and determination help her overcome all obstacles and ocean mysteries. The film draws inspiration from Polynesian myths and is set in ancient Polynesia, honoring its rich culture and heritage and keeping the spirit of ‘Aloha!’ alive.
The stellar cast includes Auli’i Cravalho as Moana, Dwayne Johnson as Maui, and the ensemble voices of Rachel House, Temuera Morrison, Jemaine Clement, Nicole Scherzinger, and Alan Tudyk. The film grossed $687 million worldwide on a budget of $150-175 million. It was nominated for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song at the 89th Academy Awards. A sequel is scheduled for release on November 27th, with its trailer already breaking the record for the most-watched trailer for a Disney Animation movie, with 178 million views in 24 hours, surpassing “Inside Out 2” and “Frozen.”
