Premiered on 18 May 2024 at the 77th Cannes Film Festival, Emilia Pérez is a musical crime comedy film written and directed by renowned Jacques Audiard and comprises of a stellar cast of Zoe Saldana, Karla Sofia Gascón, Selena Gomez and Édgar Ramírez.
The film revolves around the story of a woman tasked with assisting an escaped Mexican cartel leader with sex reassignment surgery to help her elope and affirm her gender if caught. The original score for the film was contributed by Clément Ducol and songs for the film were contributed by Camille.
The film won the Jury Prize, Best Actress and Soundtrack Award at the Cannes Film Festival. It became the 1st film in 23 years to win 3 awards at Cannes Film Festival and is said to have received a standing ovation of more than 9 minutes at the premiere. Also, the film holds a rating of 88% on Rotten Tomatoes based on 26 reviews and a weighted average score of 70/100 on Metacritic based on 17 reviews.
The film will be released in France on 28 August and is said to be available to stream on Netflix after release.
